EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: 

BIA/Kelsey’s new U.S. Local Media Forecast has the overall local media market growing at a 3.6% compound annual growth rate through 2018. By 2018 the total will be $158.6 billion, strengthened by political and Olympic advertising. Total local media advertising revenue growth will fail to keep pace with growth of the overall economy throughout our projection period (2013-18). Growth in online/digital advertising revenues will remain strong, with a 2013-2018 CAGR of 13.6%, compared with a CAGR of 0.1% for traditional advertising revenues. This document also includes our 2013-18 social advertising forecast. BIA/Kelsey projects U.S. social advertising revenues to grow to $15.0 billion by 2018. Native social advertising is growing significantly faster than social display and will eclipse display revenues next year. U.S. social mobile ad revenues surpassed $1.5 billion in 2013, and locally-targeted social advertising will grow to $5.2 billion in 2018.
