Summary: Utah’s Deseret Digital Media has set itself apart from other newspaper companies by relying on marketplaces as its path toward a successful digital future. Deseret CEO Clark Gilbert, a former Harvard Business School professor, outlined the company’s formula for success last month at BIA/Kelsey’s ILM West conference in San Francisco. Gilbert offered several critical success factors in Deseret’s transformation, including focused excellence in a few key areas and building new sales channels rather than relying on legacy channels. Deseret expects marketplaces revenues to account for 75 percent of profits over the long term.
